For the rest of April and the month of May I will be focusing on my newly finished novel, The Vampire’s Secretary – and more pointedly, Sophie. Though not the main protagonist of the novel Sophie has quickly become one of my favourite characters.
A bit about her… Sophie is a necromancer, meaning she can commune and sometimes control the dead. She comes in handy when looking for a lost soul on the other side, or when you just need a bit of sarcastic comic relief.
Here is our first meeting with Sophie …
“I see a man, he looks to be about 30 years old but he’s showing me an older view of himself, about sixty. He’s having trouble breathing.”
“My father died of lung cancer when he was sixty-five.”
Sophie smiled at the lady standing in the crowd amongst many others looking for answers to questions they were too afraid to ask.
“It must be him then.” She grabbed her forehead and massaged her temples. Shaking her head feigning weakness and a head ache, her hour long seminar was almost over. She needed to make it look good.
“He’s trying to tell me his name it’s hard for him to speak though.”
“I can’t believe people buy this shit.” He said.
“Perhaps he could take a deep breathe and try telling me his name again.” Sophie said smiling her TV smile.
The man rolled his eyes.
“It’s Zach, or did you want me to pretend to stutter for effect too?”
The other ghosts in the room laughed.
